Potassium Sorbate
Type: Excipient
Potassium Sorbate is a chemical substance that is synthetically made from sorbic acid and potassium hydroxide.
It has been used for decades as a preservative in food products, dietary supplements, as well as personal care products. Potassium Sorbate is a FDA-approved food addictive, and is often used to prevent spoilage by inhibiting the growth of bacteria, mold, yeast and fungi.
Potassium Sorbate helps to prolong the shelf life without affecting the qualities of the products, such as taste, smell and appearance. Potassium sorbate is generally recognized as safe, as it is water soluble and does not accumulate in human body.
