Alfalfa is a plant that is part of the legume family, but is mostly regarded as a herb that has been traditionally used as medicine to lower blood cholesterol.
Its active ingredient, saponin, reduces the absorption of cholesterol in the intestines and promotes excretion. Hence alfalfa helps lower cholesterol level. Moreover, alfalfa also provides other health benefits such as blood sugar control and relief of menopause discomforts.
