L-Carnitine
Type: Amino Acid
L-Carnitine/Carnitine is a non-essential amino acid, which the body can make out of lysine and methionine amino acids.
Carnitine primarily helps transport fatty acids into the cells and burning these fats to produce energy for the body.
Therefore L-Carnitine is widely used for the purpose of weight management. Common sources are fish, poultry and milk; and the redder the meat, the higher its carnitine content.
Carnitine occurs in D and L form, and L-Carnitine is the form found in food. It is also the active form in the body that has higher bioavailability.
