Spirulina
Latin Name: Arthrospira platensis
Spirulina is a type of blue-green algae that grows in both fresh and salt water. It is rich in numerous nutrients such as protein, essential amino acids, phytonutrients, chlorophyll, B-vitamins, iron, copper, magnesium and potassium.
Known as a superfood, it is abundant in antioxidants that help fight against oxidative stress. In particular, spirulina's main active compound is phycocyanin; an antioxidant that has great anti-inflammatory properties too.
